MAFCU Assists in Rollout of SBA Business Smart Toolkit
Business Smart Toolkit successfully launched throughout country
In September 2015, the SBA and NAGGL released the Business Smart Toolkit, a ready-to-use workshop toolkit that equips and empowers faith-based and community organizations to lay the groundwork for helping new and aspiring entrepreneurs launch a business idea and build a business that is credit ready. NAGGL helped the agency develop the 3-module workshop. Today, our role consists of identifying lender volunteers willing to present the "Set" module, which covers the essentials of credit and becoming credit-ready.
To date, several of our great members have volunteered -- for instance, Patrick Pearson (Redstone Credit Union) worked with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference to present in Huntsville, AL in January; and, just this past Saturday, SBA's associate administrator of the Office of Entrepreneurial Development,Tameka Montgomery, was joined by NAGGL member Deric Mims (Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union) for a workshop in New Carrolton, Maryland. We've also helped identify lenders for events in Birmingham, Los Angeles, Greensboro (NC), Tennessee, Kentucky, and Iowa for SBA's national partners and District Offices.
