Declare "Open Season" on Poverty

We are declaring "open season" on poverty in Montgomery County. Open your closets and cupboards to help those in need. Donate nonperishable food items and other essentials — furniture and kitchen items, clothing and bedding — to your Montgomery County neighbors who need them. Donations will be collected by Manna Food Center and A Wider Circle and distributed at a "Free Market" on Saturday, June 28 at the Long Branch Community Center.

 Date: Saturday, June 21

Time: 10am – 12pm

Location: The Universities at Shady Grove (9636 Gudelsky Drive Rockville, MD 20850)

Parking Lot 1 (Intersection of Darnestown & Shady Grove Roads.)

What Our Neighbors Need Most:

  • Personal care items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste)
  • Cleaning supplies and paper goods (tissues, toilet paper, laundry detergent)
  • Baby items (diapers, baby food/formula, toys)
  • Professional items (suits, dress shirts, slacks, ties)
  • Food items (low-sodium canned vegetables, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, low-sugar, high-fiber cereal, canned tuna/salmon, dried or canned beans)
  • Household items (new or gently used dishes, flatware, pots and pans, towels and linens)
  • Small appliances (vacuum cleaners, microwaves)
  • Furniture (beds, dressers, couches)

If you cannot make it on June 21st to donate items, drop your donation at your local MAFCU branch during business hours the week of June 23rd.
