Important Information Regarding Overdraft Privilege Pay Service for ATM and Everyday Debit Card Transactions

Federal Regulations that go into effect July 1, 2010 will affect the Overdraft Privilege Pay service that many members have available on their checking account.

Members will now have an option as to whether they want to continue to have our overdraft service cover their ATM and everyday debit card transactions.

For existing accounts, if you do not opt-in prior to August 15, 2010, Mid-Atlantic FCU will deny everyday debit card transactions if you do not have sufficient funds to cover them. Additionally, if you do not opt-in prior to August 15, 2010, ATM withdrawals will only be allowed if you have the funds available in your account at the time the withdrawal is requested (subject to daily ATM withdrawal limits).

For new accounts, if you open a new account on or after July 1, 2010, your ATM and everyday debit card transactions will not be protected under Mid-Atlantic FCU's Discretionary Privilege Pay service unless you opt in.

Why opt in? Mid-Atlantic FCU's Discretionary Privilege Pay service is designed with your protection and convenience in mind. Life doesn't always go according to plan and sometimes overdrafts do occur. Without overdraft protection, your ATM and everyday debit card transactions may be declined if you attempt to make a transaction without sufficient funds and you have not opted in.

How do I opt in? You can opt in several ways:

  • Click here to print out the opt in form, fill it out and mail it to Mid-Atlantic FCU, Attn: Privilege Pay Administrator, P.O. Box 2270, Germantown, MD 20875 or bring it into a branch.
  • You can also call our Member Service Center to opt-in over the phone or email them at mafcu@mafcu.org.
  • Or, you can log into Online Banking, click on Secure Forms, and submit the opt in form online.
